Toledo City Council to Plan Landfill Expansion

(Toledo, OH) Toledo City Council tonight will be asked to spend $500,000 on preliminary work to expand the city's landfill.

Toledo’s public service director admits there’s a sense of urgency to those long-term plans for adding landfill space, because the EPA permitting process for that expansion could go right to the wire.

The Hoffman Road landfill only has five years of life left, but the city must redesign its existing and future space in order to meet EPA guidelines for an expansion permit.

Toledo's top brass say an expanded landfill could extend its life by 25 to 30 more years.
