"Revenge Candidates" on Local Ballot

(Toledo, OH) A pair of November races could be marked as revenge candidacies.

Former Washington Local superintendent Patrick Hickey is seeking a board of education seat, two years after he was forced out as the district's top administrator. Hickey faced accusations of harrassment by a school board member he's now running against, and for pursuing unwanted relationships with female educators. Hickey resigned and took a buyout.

Duke Wheeler is running for Waterville township trustee, in part because of a zoning dispute over a barn-turned-reception hall called The Stables. Wheeler successfully petition to move the property into Swanton Township, but he still owns more than 400 acres along Obee Road in Waterville Township, which includes a corn maze, Christmas tree farm, and The Butterfly House.

Wheeler has partnered with a second candidate, hoping to take majority control of the township trustee board.
