Ohio Unemployment Down Slightly, Analysts See Positives

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio's newest unemployment numbers are now public and one analyst says there's a silver lining to the competition for Amazon's second North American headquarters.

5.3% is this month's rate of joblessness across Ohio. The Buckeye Institute's Ray Hederman sees that as good news, in spite of Ohio lagging behind the rest of the nation.

"A lot of people are focusing on where Amazon is going to relocate their headquarters and so as a consequence you see increases in stuff like warehousing and deliveries but day-to-day brick and mortar retailers, people in the malls, we are seeing a lot of heavy job losses in those industries," Hederman says.

Hederman points to two previous jobs reports as being lackluster, prompting concern. He notes, that's now in the past.
