Ohio Lawmakers Propose Swapping Algebra and Computer Science Classes

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two Ohio lawmakers are starting an effort to allow school districts to sub-out Algebra II classes in favor of computer science.

Focusing on jobs that are in high demand right now. That's the justification for an option to swap-out Algebra II in Ohio's high schools and allowing students to take computer science, instead. State Representatives Rick Carfagna (R-Westerville) and Mike Duffey (R-Worthington) are behind the move. The House has already passed a bill to allow the swapping of the two advanced subjects. The Senate is set to take up a vote next. The dispatch reports the bill would also allow a student to take a coding class instead of astronomy or geology
