Port Authority to Use Airport as Vehicle Staging

(Toledo, OH) You could soon see Jeep Wranglers parked alongside the runways at Toledo Express Airport.

The Ann Arbor Railroad wants to lease what used to cargo ramp space at the airport from the Toledo-Lucas County port authority. The railroad proposes to use the 20 acres of paved airport land as a vehicle storage area, presumably for the new Wrangler model being produced at the Toledo Jeep Assembly complex.

That would set up a sort of intermodal facility for Fiat Chrysler to distribute the Wrangler worldwide, as global sales are expected to explode for the iconic SUV.

The lease is $700 per acre per month, so the port authority would see $14,000 in monthly revenue.
