Ohio Senators to Host Pension Field Hearing

(Columbus, OH) Both of Ohio’s senators will host the only congressional hearing on pension reform to be held outside the nation’s capital.

Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown both sit on the Joint Select Committee on Pensions. A field hearing will allow direct testimony from union officials and retirees who fear their pension systems are in danger of insolvency, which could cost up to 60,000 Ohioans their retirement income.

Hundreds of union workers and retirees rallied at the Ohio Statehouse Thursday, hoping to draw attention to the situation.

That congressional committee is tasked with coming up with a fix affecting Teamsters, mineworkers, carpenters, confection workers, and others who could be impacted. The committee must report a bill to solve the pension crisis by the final week of November.

That hearing starts at 2 p.m. at the Ohio Statehouse.
