Sylvania Twp. Trustees End TARTA Sales Tax Bid

(Sylvania Twp., OH) Service cuts are in store for TARTA riders now that Sylvania Township trustees shoot down a sales tax proposal.

The votes of two township trustees will keep the sales tax off the November ballot, both of them opposed to what they believe is a new tax which nearly doubles TARTA's annual revenue to $25 million.

One even called the increased taxes "absurd" that would result in a "slush fund" for road repairs countywide. This is the third time Sylvania Township trustees have stopped a sales tax proposal since 2010 for the transit agency.

Maumee and Ottawa Hills had approved putting the sales tax on the ballot, but the 'no' vote from township trustees makes votes by other member communities-- Sylvania, Toledo, Rossford, and Waterville-- now a moot point.
