Brewery Turns Lake Erie Water into Green Beer

(Toledo, OH)  A local brewery is turning Lake Erie water into a green beer.

Maumee Bay Brewing Company has released their new Ale'gae Bloom beer in hopes to remind customers about the toxic algae that shows up each year in the Great Lakes.

Workers came up with the idea last summer when a thick coat of the algae settled into a creek alongside the brew house in downtown Toledo.

The new beer is part of a nationwide push by craft brewers to get people talking about strong environmental regulations at a time when the Trump administration seeks to do away with a rule that protects water sources from pollution.
